Start learning French in our small group classes from Absolute Beginner to Advanced.

At Bonjour French Classes, we do things a little differently. Forget boring textbooks and endless grammar exercises! Our small-group French classes are all about speaking, building confidence and learning the French people actually use.
From complete beginners to advanced speakers, with our experienced teachers Louise, Gabrielle and Szymon and their support, you’ll learn how to communicate in real everyday situations in French.
Briefly, about our group classes:
- You’ll join a small group of students (6 people max).
- Classes from Monday to Friday (after 5 pm in Edinburgh).
- In-person French classes: Edinburgh (Bruntsfield & Stockbridge) and Broughty Ferry, Dundee.
- Online French classes: Learn from wherever you are!
- Around £19 per one-hour class, with all learning materials included. Classes run as weekly courses, rather than individual drop-in lessons.

Which French Class is right for you?
We offer 7 levels, from absolute beginner to advanced. Have a look at the levels below and find the one that sounds most like you!
Disclaimer: Each group might be different depending on the students. I like to change the content of the class based on the needs of my group.
Level 0 – Absolute Beginners (A0)
Never learnt French before, or only know some words from school or Duolingo even after months using it?
Our Absolute Beginner French classes are perfect if you’re starting from scratch or have learnt with different apps but still struggle to make simple sentences.
You’ll learn to introduce yourself, ask basic questions, use essential French verbs and manage everyday situations, like ordering a coffee or booking a table.

Level 1 – Beginners (A1)
Approximate level: Petit A1
Know a little French and ready to build your confidence?
Our Beginner French classes in Edinburgh are for students who can already introduce themselves, answer simple questions and talk a little about their daily life.
You’re familiar with common verbs like être, avoir, aller, faire, vouloir and pouvoir in the present tense, and you might have learnt the past tense before, even if you still make mistakes.
We’ll help you build longer sentences, ask more questions and start having simple conversations in French.

Level 2 – Confident Beginners (A1+/A2)
Know the basics quite well but still need time to find your words?
Our Confident Beginner French classes are for students who can have short conversations about everyday topics, even if they need to pause and think.
You’re familiar with the present tense, the past (j’ai mangé, je suis allé) and the near future (je vais partir). You’ve also come across useful conditional expressions like je devrais, je voudrais and je pourrais.
You don’t need to use everything perfectly! This level is about practising what you already know and becoming more comfortable speaking French.

Level 3 – Improvers (A2)
Understand quite a lot of French but still feel shy speaking?
Our Improver French classes in Edinburgh are for students who can talk about their experiences, everyday life and future plans using the present, past, future and some conditional.
You’ve also come across more complex sentence structures, but using them naturally in conversation can still be tricky.
At this level, we’ll help you speak more spontaneously, expand your vocabulary and express yourself without needing to translate every sentence in your head.

Level 4 – Confident Improvers (A2+/Early B1)
Ready for longer conversations, but not quite Intermediate yet?
Our Confident Improver French classes in Edinburgh are for students who can express themselves on familiar topics and feel increasingly comfortable speaking French.
You’ve covered the main tenses, started using the conditional and perhaps even met the subjunctive. You can hold conversations, but sometimes struggle to find the right vocabulary or express more complicated ideas.
Classes are mainly taught in clear, slower French, with English explanations whenever needed. A great step towards fully immersive French lessons!

Intermediate – French Conversation (B1/B1+)
Can hold a conversation in French but want to speak more naturally?
Our Intermediate French classes in Edinburgh are for students who can discuss everyday topics, share opinions and tell stories using a good range of vocabulary and grammar.
You understand spoken French quite well, especially when people speak clearly, but you sometimes hesitate or struggle to find the right words.
These classes are taught mainly in French, helping you become more fluent, improve your listening and learn the natural expressions French people actually use. We might use English whenever it’s needed!

Advanced – French Conversation (B2+)
Already comfortable speaking French and ready to take it further?
Our Advanced French conversation classes in Edinburgh are designed for students who can confidently discuss a wide range of topics, express detailed opinions and understand most spoken French at a natural pace.
You already communicate well, but want to sound more fluent, accurate and natural.
Classes are fully immersive and taught in French, with a focus on real conversations, everyday expressions, richer vocabulary and the little details that make your French sound more native.

Our French Course
Life is too short to learn French with a method that makes you yawn!
At Bonjour French Classes, we believe learning French should be fun, relaxed and, most importantly, useful in real life!
🗣️ Learn French from native speakers. Forget those textbook phrases nobody actually uses! We’ll teach you the French you’ll really hear in France, with plenty of speaking practice to build your confidence from day one.
☕ Small groups. With a maximum of 6 students per class, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to speak, ask questions and get to know other French learners.
📚 Everything is included. You’ll receive all your learning materials, exercises and homework to keep practising between classes. No textbooks to buy!
🎥 Missing a class? Don’t worry! You’ll still receive the materials and explanations, plus a class replay where available, so you can keep up with your French.
📍 Where are our French classes?
Edinburgh: At La Barantine in Bruntsfield and Stockbridge, a lovely French bakery and café booked just for us. A little taste of France without leaving Edinburgh, oui oui!
Dundee: YMCA, in Broughty Ferry.
Online: Prefer learning from home? We also offer online French group classes.
💰 How much? Our French group classes cost around £19 per one-hour class, with all learning materials included.
📅 How does it work? Our classes are booked as a course, not individual drop-in lessons. You’ll meet your group and teacher once a week over several weeks, building your French and your confidence together!
